About the Show

This gritty, American powerhouse examines the explosive relationship between Austin and Lee, two brothers who find themselves trying to coexist in their Mother’s Southern California home while struggling to write a Hollywood screenplay. Shepard takes on the duality of the human persona as we watch Austin and Lee come into conflict over their respective roles. The brothers transform and evolve in a masterfully achieved role reversal, which leaves them both desperately grasping for some hint of self in an ever-changing America.

Sam Shepard has written forty-five plays, eleven of which have won Obie Awards. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1979 for his play, Buried Child and won the Golden Palm Award at the 1984 Cannes Film Festival for his screenplay Paris, Texas. In 1986 Shepard was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters and in 1994 he was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame. A truly undeniable talent and one of America’s foremost playwrights, Sam Shepard is still one of the most provocative and loudest voices in the Theatre.
