Song and Dance Ensemble of West Afric

About the Show

Founded in 1985, Song and Dance Ensemble of West Africa is composed of percussionists, musicians and dancers from Mali (West Africa). The troupe walks a line between modern influences and a rich tradition of West African dance, driven by the rhythms and melodies of a collection of Mandingo instruments: koras, n’gonis, djembés, dunums, doundouns, flutes and balaphons. This live orchestra features all the musical styles of Mali: peul, malinke, sénoufo, bambara. Talented musicians collaborate with dancers who are capable of remarkable speed of movement performing elaborate choreography with colorful, inventive costumes.
