Mary Lennox, a spoiled 10-year-old girl with British parents, has spent her entire life in India. When cholera strikes in 1911, she is sent to England to live with her Uncle Archibald, her only living relative, at Misselthwaite Manor.
Mary quickly learns that life in England is very different from her life in India. And no one seems to be able to explain the mysterious cries she hears at night…is it the wind…or a child?
While exploring the manor, a robin leads her to a secret garden surrounded entirely by walls. The gardener tells her that no one has been in the garden for 10 years and that it has probably long-since died. Mary determines that it will grow, and the spirit of life blooms in everything around her.
