Paul Rudnick’s hilarious comedy, I Hate Hamlet, revolves around the character of Andrew Rally, a lightweight but successful television actor who reluctantly relocates to New York to play Hamlet in a Shakespeare-in-the-Park production. Already terrified by the daunting role, Rally’s dread isn’t helped by the sudden conjuring of the legendary John Barrymore’s ghost, in whose former apartment Rally is now living. Barrymore’s quest to turn the reluctant Rally into a competent Hamlet leads to raucous debates about the value of the arts, actors and the theater – with bonus lessons on seduction.
