Crime and Punishment

About the Show

Why are we endlessly fascinated by the dark recesses of the human soul?

Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoevsky’s classic-but-timeless masterpiece of motive and murder, is perhaps the greatest and most insightful crime story ever written. Arden Theatre Company’s adaptation brings the audience into the tortured world and mind of Raskolnikov, intricately weaving into the production questions of deed, drive, and the design of the human spirit. The play’s premiere earned the prestigious Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Adaptation in 2002/2003 and was acclaimed by the Chicago Sun-Times as “stunningly lean, taut and emotionally searing.” Aaron Posner, Arden’s award-winning Resident Director and co-founder, helms the stark, bracing and stunningly theatrical production in which three actors portray all the major roles. Crime and Punishment is a psychological, philosophical, and spiritual whodunit that takes the audience on a heart-racing journey into the mind of a criminal.

A Pay-What-You-Can benefit performance of Crime and Punishment is scheduled for Wednesday, October 11 at 8:00 PM. The suggested donation is $20.00 and all proceeds go to Aid For Friends, the interfaith charity that provides “food and friendship” to needy and isolated shut-ins, primarily the frail elderly, throughout Greater Philadelphia.
