Cordelia: Mein Kindt

About the Show

This piece is a duet for film and live body; a personal exploration of a present-day Cordelia-like character revealed through language and visual imagery. This piece, inspired by Shakespeare’s play King Lear, references its thematic antecedents and entwines them with original interviews on video between a contemporary Cordelia and her father, a Yiddish-speaking Holocaust survivor approaching the end of his time on earth.

Cordelia: Mein Kindt is an extension of Leiser-Moore’s prior work into Jewish identity in Australia, and into the cultural, social and political position of women. The work intersperses film clips of The Yiddish King Lear, the epic production starring Yiddish theatrical giant Jacob Gordon, generally regarded as ushering in the first great era of Yiddish theater.
