Set in a seaport of the early 19th century, two sets of twins create mistaken-identity chaos in a town filled with pirates, wanton women, shady dealings and newfound independence.
One of Shakespeare’s first works, the ribald events of The Comedy of Errors have their roots in early Roman comedies. The comic complications due to the mix-ups of two sets of twins encourage broad physical humor, yet some of the darker moments show a young playwright working out human paradoxes that are characteristic of his later work.
