Eddie Redmayne

Eddie Redmayne is an acclaimed British actor known for his work in film, theatre, and television. Born on January 6, 1982, in London, England, Redmayne was educated at Eton College and later studied History of Art at Trinity College, Cambridge. He began his acting career in the early 2000s, appearing in stage productions such as Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at the Middle Temple Hall in 2002, where he played Viola.

Redmayne’s theatre work includes notable performances in Red (2009) at the Donmar Warehouse, for which he won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and Richard II (2011) at the Donmar Warehouse. He also won awards for his performance as the Emcee in Cabaret (2021).

Redmayne’s breakthrough role came in 2011 with his portrayal of Colin Clark in My Week with Marilyn. However, it was his performance as Stephen Hawking in the 2014 film The Theory of Everything that garnered him widespread acclaim and numerous awards, including the Academy Award for Best Actor. His meticulous preparation and nuanced portrayal of Hawking’s physical decline and intellectual brilliance were widely praised.

Following this success, Redmayne took on the role of Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl (2015), for which he received another Academy Award nomination. He demonstrated his versatility by diving into the fantasy genre with the role of Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts film series, part of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World franchise. His television credits include roles in The Pillars of the Earth (2010) and Birdsong (2012).
